Register

On the top right, next to the Login, click on the link that says Not Registered?, which takes you to the User Account page.


On the
UserAccount page, select a Username, and be sure to submit a valid email address so that you receive a verification email from goEnglish.

Activate Account

You will recieve an e-mail to activate your account.


Check your e-mail inbox or junk mail folder to make sure that the e-mail was not filtered. After you log in you will be prompted to change your password.

Login

To log in, type in your username and password in the space provided at the top right of the page.

Forgot Password

If you forgot your password, click on the Forgot Password? link on the top right of the page. You will be prompted for your e-mail and be sent a new password.

Navigate

Once you have entered the goEnglish site, you will find tabs on the left to help you navigate through the site:


Home: Allows you to select lesson modules and navigate to other areas of the site.

Lessons: Language learning curriculum and interactive lessons allow you to learn American English the way Americans really speak it.

Blogs: View and comment on user blogs.

Forums: A place for discussion of topics related to learning English. Go here to share your experiences learning with goEnglish!

Groups: Create groups with other community members around specific topics of interest. For example, Current Events, Romance, or Business.

Profile: Once you are logged in this will take you to your profile page where you can edit information about yourself, upload pictures, and write a blog.

Browse Users: See who else is on the goEnglish site and invite them to be your friend.

RSS Feeds: Receive updates on new content and lessons.

Your profile is a way for people in the goEnglish community to get to know you a little bit better. To edit your profile you have to be logged in.

Getting to Your Profile

First click on the "Member Login" link on the top right of the page

Once you are logged in, you will be taken to your profile page.

After logging in, you can always return to your profile page by clicking on the .Profile. link that appears on the navigation bar.

Edit Profile

Underneath the profile image on your profile page, click Edit Profile.


Here you can edit basic information about your profile, such as indicating your Gender, Age, Location, and filling out About Me, Favorite Movie, Favorite Music, Favorite Books.

From the Edit Profile page you can also upload your picture.


Make sure the image you are attempting to upload is in one of the formats goEnglish accepts (.gif, .jpg). Make sure the filename is simple and short, with no spaces or non-English characters. "Image.jpg" is a good filename. Make sure the file is less than 4MB. We cannot accept images over 4MB.

Update E-mail and Notifications

From your My Profile page, click Edit Profile.

From here change your email address to which notifications will be sent. In addition you can change your notification settings, to set how often you receive email from goEnglish notifying you of new messages.

Change Password

From your My Profile page, click Edit Profile. From the Edit Profile page you can change your password.

Cancel Account

From your My Profile page, click Edit Profile.

On the bottom of this page, there is a button which says "Delete My Account". Click this, and your account will be flagged to be deleted. An administrator will then be notified to delete your account.

Getting to Lessons

There are two ways to access lessons. You can either access them directly from the Home Page, or from the Lessons tab in the Navigation bar.

To get to a lesson from the Home Page:

Mouse over any of the pictures you see in the middle of the page. These pictures represent various topics such as "Girl Talk" or "Try it On!" Click on either "Beginner", "Intermediate", or "Advanced" to go to that lesson level, and you will be taken to that Lesson's page. On the Lesson page, click on the Begin Lesson button to launch a goEnglish lesson.

To get to a lesson from Anywhere Else:

Click on the Lessons icon on the left of the page. From here, choose a category that you're interested in, and click on the title of that category. Click on the image or title of the lesson you are interested in, and you will be taken to the Lesson page. On the Lesson page, click on the Begin Lesson button to launch a goEnglish lesson.

Commenting on Lessons

To comment on a lesson, go to that Lesson's page, and click on the Comments tab at the top. Enter your comment and click "Post Comment".

Lesson Downloads

goEnglish offers Lesson Downloads, in case you want to put lesson content on another device or have it on your own computer. goEnglish offers two download types: MP3 downloads and PDF downloads. The MP3 download is an mp3 audio file that contains all of the phrases from the lesson. The PDF download shows all the English phrases that are taught in the lesson, along with their translations.

To access the Lesson Downloads, go to that Lesson's page, and click on the Downloads tab. You will see the downloads that are available. Right-click on those and choose "Save target as..." to save it onto your computer.

Blog

Viewing Blogs

To view blogs, click on the blogs link in the navigation bar. You will be taken to the Blogs page, where you can view all blogs on the site. Use the search bar at the top to search for specific topics or words.

Writing a Blog

Click on the My Profile link on the top right. You will be taken to your profile page. From there click on the Blog tab. Compose your blog entry and then click on Add Entry to post the entry to your blog.

Forums

Click on the Forums link on the navigation bar. You will be taken to the Forums page, where you can view all current forum categories. To view or join a forum discussion, click on the category name. Click on the forum name in order to post a response to a thread. You can also start a new thread by clicking on Post new Forum topic.

Groups

Click on the Groups link on the navigation bar. Click on the group name in order to view all posts to that group. Click on Join Group in order to join the group, or click on Post Comment if you already belong to the group and want to post a new comment.

Messages

To send a message, go to someone's profile page and click on Send Message under their profile picture.

To view your inbox and sent messages, click My Messages on the navigation bar (this appears after you have logged in), or click on the Messages tab on your profile page.

Finding Friends

To find friends you can click on the Browse Users link on the navigation bar. You will see all the users who have profiles on the site, with users who have been recently active showing at the top of the page.

Managing Friends

Add friend:

Go to a user's profile and click Add to Friend. Your browser may not support display of this image.

View your friends:

Go to your profile page and a list of your friends will appear under the Friends tab.

Remove a friend:

To remove your friend, click Remove Friend. Your browser may not support display of this image.

Report Abuse
